Mezcal + Stone Soup Experience

This meal Brought together a Small group of makers in the heart of Mexico’s Mezcal country as we set the table to enjoy a meal together surrounded by the agave fields of Santiago Matatlan.

Our day began exploring the rich history and versatility of mezcal with Edgar Leon Of Custom Mezcal Tours. Throughout the day we discussed the unique characteristics of the agave plant as well as the process of making mezcal with the mother-daughter team behind Mezcal Desde La Eternidad.

Tablescapes were styled by Cecile Bizet Burbank and Claire Frederick incorporating locally-made textiles and ceramics from Oaxaca Collective.

Our meal was prepared by Victor Gachupin of Caldo de Piedra sharing the pre-Hispanic culinary tradition of his Chinanteca ancestors using river stones heated over fire to cook a broth packed full of fresh, local ingredients and handmade corn tortillas heated over the open flames.

We truly couldn’t have asked for a better day filled with laughter, creativity and Oaxacan hospitality.
