NOSTALGIA: Vintage Furniture + American Classics

Valentine’s Day proved to be the perfect occasion to play with the theme of NOSTALGIA surrounded by the clean lines of carefully curated furniture and a menu highlighting classic american Staples.

Our evening unfolded among the Mid-Century Modern masterpieces and captivating art curated by Jonathan Langman at Coastal Mod. From timeless statement pieces to stunning watercolors by featured artist Kate Thomas, each piece added an extra layer of nostalgia to the atmosphere.

Cocktail offerings for the meal included a lavender and beet lemon drop punch and a coffee cordial from the creative mind of Master Mixologist Paul Gonzalez known for his work in the DC food scene and more recently as the the Beverage Director at VB’s favorite late-night cocktail hang, Pacifica.

A highlight of the evening was a discussion led by a local Waterman, Chris Ludford of Pleasure House Oysters, sharing the history and significance of local seafood production in the Lynnhaven River & Chesapeake Bay alongside our first course of Pleasure House oysters with an apple caramel gel reminiscent of the gelatin molds that became popular among the American middle class in the 1950’s.

Our table was adorned with vintage-inspired tableware and accents, a nod to the timeless elegance of mid-century dining with a simple sweet berry candle handmade by Lauren Clemente of BabaBoogs at each place setting for guests to take home. The tablescape, designed by Ali Jones of Midnight Ranch Flowers, incorporated red, white and pink carnations in a visual ode to Valentine’s Day, both past and present, incorporating Mid-Century elements and modern accents alongside creative florals.

Each dish, was carefully curated by Kip Poole of the highly anticipated Yorkie’s Deli + Market to evoke the tastes of yesteryear including a nod to mac + cheese, meatloaf and toaster strudels. Each course took inspiration from the past but was presented with a modern twist that elevated each dish to a bite worth remembering.

Wine was paired with each course by Free Run Wine Merchants out of Richmond, VA, a boutique importer and distributor specializing in authentic, responsibly-grown and artisan-crafted wines.

As the evening drew to a close, guests departed to the sounds of the last 100 years of great American music and toasted to savoring every moment as we create lasting memories that stay with us through generations.
