Traditions of Oaxaca
Traditions of Oaxaca
Join us as we take Makers Meals on the road to the vibrant city of Oaxaca, Mexico. This meal, built in collaboration with local curators Convivio and Thread Caravan, will be a unique exploration of Oaxacan traditions, old and new. Combining food, mezcal, art and artisans, we’re inviting guests to immerse themselves in the unique community of Makers that call this stunning landscape home.
ABOUT THE MEAL
For one night only, Convivio’s garden will be transformed, providing the setting for our long table supper featuring the food, drink and art of Oaxaca’s thriving Maker community. This meal will highlight a combination of Oaxacan traditions, old and new, featuring chef Eduardo Vera of Atila del Sur and the creative duo behind Teocintle.
Mezcal will be our spirit of choice as we explore its rich history and versatility with Mixologist extraordinaire, Taïs Kuri, and experience a mezcal tasting featuring rare, small-batch varieties with Madre Mezcal.
Tablescapes will be designed by Caitlin Garcia-Ahern, founder and creator of travel company Thread Caravan, to highlight local textile and ceramics artisans and will incorporate heritage maíz and indigenous plants.
Whether you’re traveling from near or far, we invite you to join us around the table for the most unique Makers Meals experience to date.
MAKE A FULL-DAY OF IT WITH A MEZCAL TOUR + TASTING
Join Thread Caravan and Mezcouting for a special, 1-day outing on Sunday before the meal. This tour will take you to local mezcal palenques, the farms where agave is grown and mezcal is produced. Here you will learn the process of making mezcal via first hand experience with family-run businesses. The cost of this trip includes the mezcal experience, mezcal tastings, transportation, and lunch.
COST: $200/pp (select Meal + Mezcal Tour ticket option above).
TRAVEL WITH THREAD CARAVAN
For those looking to make a trip out of it, Thread Caravan is hosting a full 5-day Mezcal + Mole trip (Feb. 16 - 20th) through Oaxaca that we highly recommend! This meal will be just one of the many unique experiences during the trip. You can book tickets for the trip here. Tickets for this Makers Meal is included in the trip price. Space is limited!
